Overview

The Semantic Tech & Business Conference (SemTechBiz) is the foremost conference series on semantic technologies held each year, and covers a wide range of topics that are redefining the landscape. Please note that we are seeking compelling and thought provoking practitioner depictions of real-world experience.

We strongly favor presentations that include:

  • In-depth case studies
  • Step-by-step how-to's
  • Real brands
  • Solid data and resutls

Priority consideration is given to speakers with hands-on implementation experience and broad industry knowledge. Precedence is also given to presentations offering actionable ideas and substantive answers to specific, real-world questions (share the mistakes along with the successes!).

This page describes the speaking opportunities available at the conference, and some guidelines for submitting your proposal.

Speaking at the Berlin Semantic Tech & Business Conference offers numerous benefits including an unparalleled platform to gain exposure among your industry peers; increased credibility for your business, project or team; and the opportunity to convey your goals and vision in this diverse community of technologists and business professionals.

Competition for speaking slots has increased each year, and unfortunately we often have to turn down many excellent proposals because of limitations on the agenda. In an effort to deal with this high demand, we are changing the format of some speaking opportunities in 2012. Please take note that the following opportunities are available:

Reviewed and Invited Presentation formats:

  • Conference Session – 25 minutes

Presentation Opportunities for All Conference Registrants

  • Lightning Talks – 5 minutes (Registration required)
  • Panel Session - 25 minutes (Registration required)
  • Sponsored Session – Product/Company Showcase

These formats are designed to optimise the mix of educational presentations, case studies and discussion panels, as well as provide more opportunities for product developers and entrepreneurs to bring their work to the attention of customers, business partners and investors. A more complete explanation of these formats is available below.

Proposal Deadline

The deadline for making your speaking proposal is 31 October 2011. We will notify you by 28 November as to whether your proposal has been accepted onto the program.

Reviewed and Invited Presentation formats:

The following presentation format is available to speakers for SemTechBiz’s formal educational conference programme.  Multiple speakers may be proposed. The first (primary) speaker receives complimentary conference attendance. Additional speakers or panelists register at the special speaker rate of 395.

  • Conference Session – 25 minutes
Conference sessions are usually combined with similar topics to fill a full-25 minute timeslot.

Presentation Opportunities for All Conference Registrants

The following presentation formats are designed to give more opportunities for attendees to discuss their work and meet like-minded colleagues. Some of these are very short and others are discussions rather than presentations, but all formats are published in the conference agenda, thereby enabling you to get the full benefit of exposure to SemTechBiz’s broad audience of potential customers, partners and investors. Some sessions are designed to provide professional networking opportunities with like-minded professionals.  Please note that we do our utmost to fit all relevant proposals onto the agenda from these categories, however they all require that the speaker to be a registered attendee of the conference, either as a paid attendee, reviewed speaker, or sponsor.

Lightning Talk – 5 minutes/10 slides maximum

Lightning talks are 5-minute presentations. Numerous lightning talks are combined into 25 minute times lots within the formal conference agenda. Lightning talks can be about ideas, solutions, methods, products, research projects or implementation experience and they can be on any topic you like. Lightning talks may have only one speaker. Lightning talks are the most likely way to be selected to speak at the conference because of the short format. They are also a great way to expose your idea to lots of people, because the sessions are always well attended.  Lightning talks can be proposed nearer to the conference date. However the earlier you submit your proposal, the greater your chances of selection.

Sponsored Session - Product/Company Showcase

Sponsored Sessions are appropriate for when you have a product or service announcement, or to discuss your company, or simply when you want to ensure that you have a presentation during the educational programme and your topic is not selected during the formal review process.  There is a fee payable for Sponsored Sessions, which varies according to the overall level of sponsorship you may be undertaking at the SemTechBiz show.  If you're in the USA, contact Frank Fazio for sponsorship details at frank@mediabistro.com, in Europe please speak to Claudia Pacheco at claudia.pacheco@risingmedia.de
